Safeguarding and Welfare

At Ascento, we are committed to ensuring that every learner can learn, develop, and succeed in a safe and supportive environment. Safeguarding is not only about protection from harm; it also involves promoting wellbeing, building resilience, and ensuring that everyone feels safe, valued, and respected throughout their programme.

What Safeguarding Means

Safeguarding covers a wide range of responsibilities

Protection from Harm

Preventing abuse, neglect, exploitation, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Wellbeing & Mental Health

Supporting positive mental health and wellbeing, and helping learners access support early.

Online Safety

Keeping people safe online and during remote learning.

Prevent Extremism

Raising awareness of risks linked to radicalisation in line with the Prevent Duty.

Risk Awareness

Promoting understanding of issues such as modern slavery, human trafficking, forced marriage, and county lines.

Workplace Safety

Ensuring learners are safe during workplace activities, placements, and training sessions.

Who to Contact

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is:

If you ever have a concern about your own safety, or about someone else, please contact Helen or a Deputy DSL immediately. If you believe someone is at immediate risk of harm, call 999.

How We Keep You Safe

We work hard to create a safe and positive culture for all our learners. This includes:
  • Safe Recruitment
Safe recruitment practices and regular safeguarding training for all staff.
  • Regular Reviews
Regular progress reviews where wellbeing, safeguarding, British Values, Prevent, and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) are discussed.
  • Curriculum Integration
Safeguarding and online safety are integrated into teaching, resources, and learner discussions.
  • Strong Partnerships
Strong links with local safeguarding boards, social services, and the police to ensure referrals are made quickly when needed.
  • Clear Reporting Learners, employers, and staff can raise concerns confidentially through agreed reporting channels.

Reporting a Concern
If you are worried about your own safety or the safety of someone else, you can report a concern by:
  • Speaking to your tutor or the DSL/Deputy DSL
  • Email safeguarding@ascento.co.uk
  • Asking for a private conversation at any progress review or coaching session

You do not need proof to raise a concern - sharing a worry early helps us act quickly.

Prevent: support if you are worried about radicalisation

Prevent is part of our safeguarding responsibility and focuses on supporting people who may be vulnerable to being drawn into extremism or terrorism.

If you are worried about yourself or someone else in relation to extremist views, radicalisation, or online content, you can:

  • Speak to your tutor or the DSL/Deputy DSL
  • Email safeguarding@ascento.co.uk
  • Raise the concern in a private conversation during a progress review or coaching session

You can also seek confidential advice outside the organisation:

In an emergency or if there is an immediate risk of harm, call 999.

You do not need proof to raise a Prevent concern. Sharing a concern early allows the right support to be put in place.

Confidentiality & Information Sharing
We will always take your concerns seriously and treat them with sensitivity. Information is shared only with people who need it to help keep you safe, and in line with national safeguarding guidance.
