This first session will provide delegates with a full induction to the 12 - 18 month management programme. It will outline student expectations, programme content and the assessment requirements for the programme.
Leadership & Management Skills
Delegates will examine the basic knowledge, skills and competencies required to become an outstanding manager and leader. The session will also aim to develop the knowledge and skills required to manage personal and professional development.
Understanding Your Strengths & Areas for Development
Upon completion of this unit, delegates will be able to identify personal and professional development requirements and fulfil their own personal and professional development plan. Learners will also be able to maintain a personal and professional development plan ensuring its relevance to their role as a manager.
The Principles of Leadership & Management
This unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding regarding leadership and management, and introduces learners to the associated key principles. Upon completion of this unit, learners will have an understanding of the skills required to become an effective leader, leadership styles & models, and performance management. Learners will also have an understanding of the role, functions and processes of management and understand how a leader builds a shared sense of purpose with a team.
Managing Team Performance
This unit aims to develop the knowledge and skills required to manage the performance of a team. Upon completion of this unit, learners will have developed an understanding of the management of team performance. Learners will be able to identify issues that affect performance, know how to select and apply the best course of action to address a performance issue, be able to take action to achieve the performance of issue of an individual, allocate and assure the quality of work and manage communications within a team.
Managing Individuals Performance
This unit aims to develop the knowledge and skills required to manage individuals performance. Upon completion of the unit the learner will have developed an understanding of the management of underperformance in the workplace and will be able to manage individuals performance in the workplace
This unit aims to develop the knowledge and skills required to manage and communicate information and to develop the skills to become an effective management communicator. Upon completion learners will be able to gather and select data, be able to interpret data and information related to a work activity and be able to communicate the results of the information analysis. They will understand the importance and principles of management communication and understand how to use and review methods of communication to achieve management objectives.
The Principles of Managing Resources
This unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding regarding resource management to ensure that first line managers are able to understand and manage both non-financial and financial resources. Upon completion of this unit learners will develop an understanding of a variety of principles, including understanding how to plan resource needs within the team to meet team objectives, understanding the need for changes to resource requirements and will be able to monitor , record and control resources within the work area. Learners will also acquire a basic understanding of financial management and the principles behind managing costs within an organisation.
